Dubrovnik film festival 'a success'

The Libertas film festival in Dubrovnik has been hailed as a success by commentators and organisers alike.

A "solid and varied" programme of around 30 movies was provided for viewers, covering indie to horror, according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR).

It was particularly enthused by the work of the festival's "small but resourceful" team, which the newspaper suggested made its budget - $600,000 (£303,507) - stretch a long way.

Mia Pecinas, Libertas festival director, told THR she felt his year's edition of the annual celebration of film was the most successful yet.

She added: "Our goal is education - bringing independent film that they [locals] wouldn't see elsewhere. We've seen definite progress. People used to go mainly to the horror films, now they are trying indie stuff."

THR lauded the open-air showings which passed without a hitch apart from when an electrical storm interrupted some performances on one evening.

Cuban films featured prominently among the movies shown, with Libertas showcasing the country's films in conjunction with its Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry.
