Dubrovnik holiday 'even more romantic with island visit'

Couples searching for a romantic break should head to the island of Lokrum - off the coast of Dubrovnik - which has been dubbed the Island of Love.

Meri Maresic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Office for London, says Lokrum's special forest vegetation and UNESCO protection make it the ideal spot for a beautiful break.

She states: "It is called the Island of Love and it is very popular for picnics and sunbathing."

Lokrum is just a short boat ride from Dubrovnik, with services regularly departing from the Ploce gates in the ancient city.

Whether a romantic stroll through the island's forest or relaxing on its beaches is on the cards, Lokrum could be the ideal way of making a special trip to Dubrovnik with a loved one even more memorable.

Dubrovnik was recently named by the Guardian as Europe's second-most romantic holiday destination, losing out only to Prague.
