Dubrovnik holiday 'is top summer destination for women in 2010'
13 January 2010Female holidaymakers hoping to give the World Cup a miss have named travelling to Dubrovnik as their top preference for the summer.
The ancient Croatian city came out on top of a poll organised by sunshine.co.uk, beating Istanbul and Valletta which came in second and third place.
Dubrovnik was considered to be Europe's most beautiful city by Lord Byron, the online travel expert states.
"Dubrovnik is a city full of quaint cafes, shops and medieval architecture. Wooded capes and a vast landscape of beaches lie beyond the city walls", it says.
Of the 1,074 women aged 18 to 30 questioned, 41 per cent are planning a girly trip abroad this summer while one-quarter state they intend to take their partner away during the World Cup.
The research suggests that a significant portion of them will be heading for the historic walls and cobbled streets of Dubrovnik, on Croatia's Adriatic coast.
The World Cup kicks off on June 11th and lasts precisely a month, with the final taking place in Johannesburg.
