Dubrovnik 'ideal for walkers'

Walkers looking for a holiday to combine relaxation with their hobby need look no further than Dubrovnik, after a newspaper asserted it has the second best walk in the world.

The Sunday Times recently reported its top 50 world walks, ranking the walls of the Croatian town in second place, describing them as "unforgettable".

According to the newspaper, the best time to visit is at sunset, as the walls allow a good view out across the Adriatic.

Dubrovnik's tourist board says the walls afford a great view across the entire Old City and to date have been visited by 737,000 tourists.

The source states: "The uninterrupted defence walls present one of Europe's most beautiful and best preserved defence complexes."

People who visit them love them so much that some get married on the walls, with "breathtaking" views in the background.

The walls are open from 09:00 until 19:30 local time and cost around £5.50 to enter.
