Dubrovnik 'is a beautiful, friendly spot for a holiday'

It is difficult to ascertain what travellers to Dubrovnik see as the greatest of many benefits of the Adriatic city.

For some, the chance to explore the resort's history, from its ancient walls to cathedral and museums, is likely to be the biggest draw.

Others could be excited by the wonderful views across the Adriatic Sea from the top of Mount Srd, or the chance to visit many of the splendid islands located in the ocean off Dubrovnik's coast.

The Croatian Times recently told how many natives are now opting to holiday in Croatia, such is its tremendous offering to tourists.

But for one explorer – Seth Kugel, writing for the New York Times – it was the marvellous view of the coast in southern Dalmatia that was to become a highlight of his trip.

He revealed that the deep navy of the sea contrasted with many of the colours on the land and the lush green of neighbouring islands could have made for a feast of colour and beauty in the region.
