Dubrovnik sees surge in duty-free sales

Dubrovnik Airport has seen a surge in the amount of duty-free products sold, statistics have shown.

According to the MoodieReport.com, officials at the Croatian hub recorded an eight per cent rise in yearly sales to just under $10 million (£6.9 million) during 2008.

Trade department manager Niksa Milanovic revealed that sales growth had actually outstripped the four per cent rise in passenger numbers arriving at the airport.

Specifically, the 467,000 travellers who came through Dubrovnik Airport spent the majority of their money on items such as cosmetics, fragrances and cigarettes.

Dubrovnik is one of Croatia's key tourism destinations. Holidaymakers from all over the world come to the Adriatic coastal resort to experience its fascinating blend of culture and history.

The city is also home to some of the best weather in southern Europe, featuring mild winters and summers which frequently see temperatures soar up to 30 degrees Celsius.
