Dubrovnik to hold carnival in February
26 November 2008The annual Dubrovnik Carnival will take place in February next year and is an event which tourists visiting Croatia may be interested in attending and taking part in.
Dating back to the 14th century, the carnival still has many of the traditions which were carried out back then, which are still maintained in the present day.
People from the surrounding areas join together and dress in bright costumes and parade down the streets, while trumpets and drums play in the background.
There are also jousting competitions in the city centre where men on horses carry lances and aim for a silver ring on a rope above the horse track.
Organised by the City of Dubrovnik and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board, the four-day event is one of the country's biggest festivals.
The Dubrovnik Tourist Board was recently commended for its high quality and excellence at an awards ceremony in Opatija, the Kvarner tourist centre.
