Eco tourism takes off in Croatia
27 February 2009Eco tourism is the latest craze to enthral travellers to Croatia, one expert has suggested.
Outdoor attractions such as horse riding, cycling and bird watching have soared in popularity with visitors to the country, which is home to some of Europe's most picturesque locations.
Ms Matesic, director of the Croatian tourism board for the UK, believes that the nation's fantastic reputation is justified.
She commented: "Croatia is one of the best preserved European eco destinations.
"Due to the natural beauty there are plenty of possibilities for sailing, diving, river and sea canoeing, or kayaking."
She added that while it was easy to enjoy a beach holiday in Croatia, it was possible to combine this with a number of other environmentally-friendly activities.
Recent data published by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics revealed that there were over 57 million overnight stays in the country during 2008.
