Europe 'will be winner' in holidays
20 November 2008People will start cutting out their long-haul holidays if the current climate continues, meaning destinations in Europe could benefit.
Graham McKenzie, managing director of TravelMole, says people will look more carefully at their long-haul breaks and may opt for a location closer to home instead.
The expert states this downturn may have a price-reducing effect on long-haul travel, but people will still avoid these holidays.
"I think European destinations will be the winners in all of this in the next 18 months," he states.
Mr McKenzie adds: "If we believe everything we hear in terms of the credit crunch then I think people will start to look carefully at where they go in terms of long haul."
Research from Kayak.co.uk found almost half of respondents to the survey said they plan to travel abroad this year.
Of those questioned, 40 per cent said they would prefer a family holiday, followed by 30 per cent who want a romantic break.
