Expert advises troubled couples to try sun-filled holiday

Couples that are having problems are being urged to try heading away on a summer holiday.

Kate Taylor, a relationships expert at match.com, said that sunny climes may help to banish "domestic drudgery".

Possible hotspots could be destinations such as Dubrovnik or Split, which are well known as warm and sunny places to visit.

Ms Taylor added: "A change of scene can lift the spirits and make couples see their day-to-day problems more clearly, with some distance.

"You tend to do more relaxing things on holiday - go out for dinner rather than cook, sleep later, swim, walk - which can give you a rest."

The Adriatic coast is well known for its excellent restaurants, top quality wine stocks and relaxing beaches, making it the perfect getaway for couples.

Divorce rates in England and Wales are believed to have fallen in recent years, according to the Office for National Statistics - in 2007 there were 11.9 divorces per 1,000 married people, compared to 12.2 in 2006.
