Explore natural phenomenon on a Dubrovnik holiday
10 September 2010Travellers to Dubrovnik have been told of a natural phenomenon that lies close to the ancient city and may be of significant interest.
Durovica cave in Konavli, located close to the resort's airport, is the result of millions of years of geology.
The Croatian National Tourist Board notes it has made its name in recent times for stocking the country's finest wines, as its constant cool temperature makes it an ideal storage spot.
Known locally as Nebeski podrum - which translates as the sky cellar - the cave is illuminated and visitors are invited to walk its narrow pathways.
"Nebeski podrum is a unique place and a world of its own worth visiting and enjoying in tasting high-quality wines in a beautiful, unlikely atmosphere," the organisation states.
The adjacent Dubrovnik Airport is ideally positioned for those planning a holiday in the historic city, with regular flights to Croatia from the UK operated by easyJet, British Airways and Jet2.com among others.
