Exploring Croatia's islands by ferry is green option
03 September 2010As well as being highly enjoyable, taking a ferry between the numerous islands off Croatia's Dalmatian coast is also an eco-friendly option.
Richard Hammond, chief executive and founder of greentravellers.co.uk, notes the vessels to be among the most fun modes of transport on offer.
Commenting on the boats, he says: "Nowadays they are much more comfortable, they've got fantastic services and they are much more like a hotel than just standing in an old pitch-and-roll ferry."
Ferries in Croatia link the major resorts on the Dalmatian coast, such as Dubrovnik, Split and others, to many of the islands that lie off the country's shore.
These include spots such as Krk, Hvar and Brac, all of which have a unique cultural aspect ready to be discovered by travellers to Croatia.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change recently named travelling as a foot passenger on a ferry as one of the greenest ways to travel the world.
