Famed conductor to perform in Split
02 March 2009The famed English conductor Christian Curnyn is to perform in Split tonight (March 2nd), it has been revealed.
As reported by the Croatian Times, Curnyn will conduct the Croatian national theatre orchestra alongside soprano vocalist Renato Pokupic.
Included in the recital will be renditions of pieces and overtures by Mozart and Handel, on which Curnyn will play the harpsichord.
The concert is being held to mark the 250th anniversary of the death of Handel, according to the Croatian Times. It is also the first time Pokupic has performed in the city for eight years.
Born in Glasgow, Curnyn studied music at the University of York before going on to form the Early Opera Company - which performs Baroque with period instruments.
While in Split, visitors may also be tempted to soak up attractions such as Diocletian's Palace, Ivan Mestrovic's statue of Gregory of Nin and the new waterside Riva.
