Forget the 'staycation' and try Croatia

Croatia could be one destination people will head to next year after a disappointing 'staycation' in 2009.

Many of the people opting to holiday within the UK this summer will have been disappointed by the damp August and are likely to head overseas in search of sun for their next holiday, ABTA - The Travel Association has claimed.

Frances Tuke, spokeswoman for the organisation, said: "People were promised a barbecue summer this year and that didn't materialise so they felt a little short changed.

"Weather does play a big part in what people want to do on their holidays."

Meanwhile, a recent release from Visa Europe has indicated that 83 per cent of Brits intend to take between one and five short breaks this year, while 60 per cent want to book a beach holiday where they can relax and sunbathe.

According to the Orlando Tourism Bureau, as many as 57 per cent of Brits who holidayed in the UK this summer were disappointed by the weather.

Unlike the UK, Croatia has fabulous weather and is a great place to holiday, particularly in the summer.

The beaches of the Adriatic coast are among the most revered in the region and could be the perfect place to get a villa and enjoy summer next year.
