"Formula One of paragliding" held in Croatia

An international event known as the "Formula One of paragliding" is taking place this week in the Croatian region of Istria and is sure to delight holidaymakers in the country.

The Croatian Times reported that the Paragliding World Cup 2009, which began on July 11th, features some 130 pilots hailing from 32 countries.

"It is a great honour for us to host an event known in the world as the Formula One of paragliding," said Petar Klaric, chief of Free Flying Club 'Tici'.

This year marks the first time the event has been held in Croatia and its opening ceremony included a buffet of regional food and a performance from local male choral group Klapa Boskarin.

People with a taste for adventure may wish to consider taking a holiday in Croatia, as the country was recently named as home to some of the world's best adventure trips by an American magazine.

Stephanie Michaels of People magazine said that the country's Hvar island is one of its "must-see" destinations.
