Gemma Arterton 'falls in love with Croatia on holiday'

Hollywood star Gemma Arterton has described how a recent holiday in Croatia with her best friend left her in awe of the country and all it has to offer.

In an article for the Guardian, she describes how the pair's trip began in Dubrovnik, where the local wine, ice cream and medieval architecture made for a wonderful stay.

The actress admits she felt a bit guilty at not taking her husband at this point, as the ancient city is "one of the most romantic places I've been".

Following on from Dubrovnik, Arterton and pal Pippa headed to the island of Hvar, which she says included "the most memorable and beautiful" drive along the coast and subsequent ferry ride.

The Dalmatian coast here is "rugged and untouched" with very few people to spoilt the atmosphere or view.

Arterton is just the latest actress to enjoy a holiday in Croatia, after Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria was pictured in the country last summer.
