Germanwings to fly to Istria this summer

German low-cost carrier Germanwings has announced it will start flying from its Cologne/Bonn airport base to the Istrian town of Pula this summer.

The twice-weekly flights will boost holidays to the beautiful Istrian peninsula in Croatia and Pula is a great place to base yourself in a villa in Istria.

Pula is famous for its Roman amphitheatre, which is the sixth largest in the world and a symbol of the town's long and cosmopolitan history.

The mild climate, beautiful and calm beaches make this a great Croatian holiday destination and visitors can investigate the ancient local traditions of winemaking and fishing.

The region is also well known for its cuisine and both the cuttlefish risotto and a vegetable stew with corn and polenta with homemade sausages should not be missed.

Just off the coast the group of 12 exquisite Brijuni islands were also colonised by the Romans and are now a Croatian National Park.

Germanwings is already taking bookings for the new summer 2008 route.
