Heritage of Trsteno is worth seeing on Dubrovnik holiday
15 September 2010People taking a holiday in Dubrovnik in the coming months have been advised of an interesting and cultural day trip they could take to a nearby village.
Trsteno, located about 20 kilometres west of the resort, features fascinating heritage sites and beautiful and historic gardens.
The Dubrovnik Tourist Board suggests the number one attraction in the village is the Trsteno Arboretum, which is the only building of its kind on the Dalmatian coast.
It is famous for its gardens and a vast range of Mediterranean plants, including some exotic species.
Also worth a look at the arboretum is the 19th century neo-romantic garden and a renowned olive grove.
Keen gardeners may be interested in a pair of Asian plane-trees located in the estate, which are said to be the largest of their kind in Europe.
Travellers hoping to travel a little further could head up the coast towards other spots on the Dalmatian coast, such as Makarska and Split.
