Holiday in Croatia this summer for Old Sports Olympics
11 February 2011People who travel to Croatia for a holiday this summer could choose to time their stay in the country with the hosting of an Old Sports Olympics.
Due to take place in the town of Bizovac, the event features a number of activities traditionally enjoyed tens and hundreds of years ago.
Some people may be wondering exactly what sports were carried out by their ancestors – and a trip to Croatia on August 30th will help them to find out.
The Croatian National Tourist Board says young men used to engage in some of the pursuits in order to attract the objects of their affections.
However, these days many are contested just for fun – with the itinerary including games such as rope pulling, rock throwing, horseshoe tossing and sack races.
Bizovac is located just to the west of the town of Osijek and about 175 miles east of Croatia's capital city, Zagreb.
