Holiday in Opatija for "Nice of the Croatian Riviera"
24 February 2011Tourists seeking a relaxed and sophisticated break should consider a holiday in the Croatian resort of Opatija, if one expert is to be believed.
Andrew Eames, writing for the Independent, explains the town on the Dalmatian coast is easy to reach from Zagreb Airport.
And those who make the 90-minute journey from the travel hub will, upon arrival, find a destination that is described as the "Nice of the Croatian Riviera".
The writer suggests Opatija still has an "old-money feel", boasting high-class restaurants, glorious Croatian villas and a lengthy promenade.
In years gone by, the Austrian aristocracy used the town as a holiday spot due to its notably warm weather and beautiful hillside setting.
Reaching Zagreb Airport from the UK became easier earlier this month when easyJet launched their first flights to the Croatian capital.
