Holidaymakers persuaded to shop around for currency

People planning their summer holidays to places such as Croatia and the Mediterranean have been urged to shop around for their currency.

Stephen Heath, chief executive of internet-based foreign currency business FairFX.com, said that his firm is trying to persuade vacationers to compare prices.

"Part of the problem is that people don't understand exchange rates," he explained. "The issue is that the underlying price is moving around all the time so it makes the comparison a lot more difficult."

There is a general "lack of understanding" when it comes to the whole process, he added.

Earlier this month, the Post Office said that the Croatian kuna was one of its best-selling currencies of 2009 so far - it is also one of the fastest-growing foreign exchange markets for the group over the last few years.

This suggests that a number of British people have opted for a Croatia travel experience this summer.
