Holidays in Croatia 'increasingly popular with Austrians'

Austrian travellers are increasingly opting to take holidays in Croatia, according to new figures released by one travel organisation.

Verkehrsburo Group, which runs more than 100 travel offices across Austria, notes there has been a 12.1 per cent rise in the number of people planning trips to Croatia in 2011 compared with 2010 statistics, the Austrian Times reports.

While holidaying in their home country is still popular with Austrians, those looking to go abroad are turning to the Balkan nation in large numbers.

Martin Bachlechner, a Verkehrsbüro Group board member, tells the news source people can expect price hikes in many destinations.

Such a factor may draw more people to travel to Croatia – a country renowned for its good value for money.

Among the highlights for individuals taking holidays in the nation is likely to be the ancient resort of Dubrovnik, the historic port city of Split and the fascinating capital, Zagreb.
