The success of the region is built upon a combination of rich culture with budget friendly prices.

Indeed, in recent years this part of the world has gone from travel underdog to a top-of-the-range holiday spot.

And tourists looking for a blend of history, activity, sunshine and reasonable prices may find all they require when taking a holiday in Croatia in 2011.

Among the country's most renowned destinations are the ancient city of Dubrovnik, Split and Rijeka.

One spot that was a favourite of holidaymakers last year was Plitvice Lakes National Park, with the Croatian Times recently reporting it attracted almost a million visitors.
