Holidays in Dubrovnik 'becoming more popular'

Accommodation in Dubrovnik is seemingly growing in popularity, after it was suggested that the city's tourism sector is set to grow by ten per cent.

The impressive figure will be achieved over the forthcoming summer season, according to a report by the Jutarnji List, cited by the Croatian Times.

Stanko Ljubic, a representative of Dubrovnik's tourist agents, explained 2011 could be one of the best years in the last two decades.

"We are especially delighted that there are 17 per cent more German tourists than last year," he told the news source.

Over the weekend, some 20,000 visitors travelled to Dubrovnik on cruise liners alone, with the average guest said to spend €37 (£32.19) in the resort.

Among the attractions available to holidaymakers is the city's ancient walls, as well as a number of museums and a beautiful beach.

The Dubrovnik International Wine and Jazz Festival is likely to have been another of the highlights of the weekend for many of those in the area.
