House buying in Croatia to get easier

People who enjoy holidaymaking in Croatia can sample the lifestyle all year round in 2009 as rules are changed to allow Brits to buy a property in the country.

Nubricks.com reports from February next year residents in the UK will be able to buy a holiday home in Croatia, lifting rules which have previously made it hard for people outside the country to purchase a house.

Chintan Nahida, global property analyst for the website, says: "The move to make buying Croatian property easier for foreign purchasers is bound to have repercussions for the national property market."

She adds that the move is likely to bring increased foreign interest as it links in with the country's ambition to be a member of the European Union in 2011.

Authorities have received over 8,000 applications in the last two years from foreign buyers wanting to secure a property in the country, approving just over 3,500 in the last nine years.

The Times recently reported that Dubrovnik has recently seen an increase in house prices as it becomes a more fashionable location to holiday in.
