Hvar 'a popular and affordable island'
20 July 2009The central Dalmatian island of Hvar is one of Croatia's most affordable and popular tourist destinations, particularly in the summer.
Davor Kosnijikusic of the Southeast European Times described the island's Bay of Maslinica as "one of the most beautiful beaches" on the Adriatic and said that despite its popularity, it rarely feels crowded - even during the warmest months of the year.
Fans of nightlife will find plenty to explore in the "densely packed" nightclubs in the town of Hvar, while history buffs may prefer a visit to Stari Grad - one of the country's oldest settlements.
Stephanie Michaels, writing for American magazine People, said a holiday to the Croatian island is a great option for adventure-seekers.
Hvar was listed in the magazine's list of Top Adventure Trips earlier this month.
It is not the first time Croatia has been recognised internationally for its adventurous offerings for holidaymakers.
Three years ago, it was named as the number one adventure nation by National Geographic Adventure magazine.
