Hvar and Korcula 'are beautiful islands to visit in autumn'
29 September 2010People planning a holiday in Dubrovnik or Split over the coming months will find the most accessible and beautiful of all Croatia's islands are Hvar and Korcula.
Carol Pucci, a travel expert answering readers' letters for the Seattle Times, says the landmasses are "both fine choices" and will be quieter than during the hectic summer holiday period.
They are both easy to reach, with ferry services running from the ports in the Dalmatian coast's premier resorts.
"You could spend a day or two exploring the Renaissance architecture of Hvar Town. Then move onto Korcula, a charming town with lots of historic sites, walking trails and museums," Ms Pucci states.
She adds the islands will be "especially relaxing" at this time of year, with the large crowds of summer starting to disappear.
Croatia boasts more than 1,000 islands, of which many are uninhabited, just off it's shore in the Adriatic Sea.
