Increase in air traffic estimated for Croatia

Croatia and other countries in eastern Europe are set for an annual increase of 6.7 per cent in air traffic until 2026, it has been estimated.

A report by Airbus predicts it is to outperform other areas across the world and will grow quicker than the global rate of 4.9 per cent.

More environmentally-friendly aircraft are expected to replace existing airliners, while it is anticipated 460 new planes will be needed for eastern Europe by 2026.

The aircraft manufacturer said "intense economic development" in the area will continue to fuel growth in air travel.

Croatia Airlines has already decided to extend its summer timetable this summer, linking Zagreb with Pristina in Albania and the Montenegrin capital Podgorica.

A new route from Split to Bristol has also been announced by easyJet as one of three destinations offered from the Croatian city.

It now operates flights to Bristol, Geneva and London Gatwick.
