Insurance group offers advice to holidaymakers

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) in the UK has warned people travelling abroad this year that they need to take out the relevant cover and ensure they are given "clear transparent advice about the options that are available".

Recommendations from the group will be applicable to people travelling to various European destinations such as Croatia over the summer months.

Malcolm Tarling, spokesperson for the ABI, also claimed that companies selling travel insurance policies need to make sure they are complying with all the domestic and European Union (EU) legislation.

Offering further guidance to people heading on holidays to Croatia and elsewhere, he added: "It may be that taking out that policy with that provider is a good thing to do but people should be aware of the options so they can make the right judgement."

Which? Holiday magazine recently announced there are four airlines - including some that provide routes to Croatia - that are ignoring an EU ruling prohibiting carriers from automatically adding extras such as insurance at the time of a booking.
