Investors buying second homes in Croatia

It is easy to see why people are buying second homes in Croatia, which has one of the longest and prettiest coastlines in Europe, according to a newspaper.

The country, with its delicious seafood and similar temperatures and scenery to Italy, is an attractive prospect for holiday and retirement homes, the Times says.

Restrictive property laws have recently been liberalised. However, buying a property in a development ensures legal issues will not arise as they will have been checked.

Andrew Piper, from Emerging Market Property, said a home in Croatia provides people with a Mediterranean lifestyle at a lower cost than similar coastal locations.

"Property prices on the coast have increased more than ten per cent a year for the past five years, with island properties showing particularly strong growth," he added.

Those who invest in property should know Croatia is not just a summer holiday destination - it is also ideal for a more peaceful winter break, according to the Dubrovnik Tourist Board.
