Istria holiday 'is packed with magic and mystique'
02 December 2010Istria, a heart-shaped peninsula in northern Croatia, is very similar to a toned-down Tuscany, explains a travel magazine.
Lonely Planet, which has announced its top ten regions to travel to in 2011, describes the area as an idyllic destination that does not share the large crowds and high prices of its Italian counterpart.
It notes Istria, which comes in at number two on the list of dream holiday spots, is basically Tuscany without these factors plus a "little mystique".
"[This] is where continental Croatia meets the Adriatic. In summer months, the sun-and-sea set storms the resort-lined coast, or so-called Blue Istria," the publication states.
Lonely Planet names some of the top attractions in Istria that those on holiday there might like to enjoy as the Roman amphitheatre in Pula, the Euphrasian basilica in Porec and the same town's Bishop's Palace.
There are also a host of nearby islands to visit, such as Krk.
