Istria ideal for autumn holidays
01 September 2009Holidaymakers have been advised to consider the joys of Istria when looking into heading abroad for an overseas break.
While the region's numerous beaches and near-guaranteed high temperatures make it a favourite summer holiday destination, one travel writer has revealed that it's equally as idyllic in the autumn.
Writing in the Observer, Nicola Iseard reveals that Istria's temperate Mediterranean climate means that it's "comfortably warm" during the day time and lovely and cool at night.
She added: "The region's vineyards come alive in autumn, as this is a time for picking malvasia, teran and muscat grapes.
"Wine trail excursions can take you to the best cellars in the region. It's also the start of the truffle season, which is celebrated with the two-month-long Days of Truffles festival."
The largest peninsular in the Adriatic, Istria is home to several highlights of a Croatian holiday, including the historic towns of Pula, Rovinj and Porec.
