Istria region could be perfect for Christmas break

Visitors to the Istria region of Croatia throughout December are being offered a range of festive activities which could give any traveller an enjoyable Balkan Christmas experience.

The fun kicks off on Saturday December 5th with the annual decoration of Istria's Christmas tree in the city's marketplace, the area's official website states.

Religious tourists may be especially interested in an event taking place the following day in the city's cathedral entitled Saint Nicholas Welcome, which is followed by a children's performance of a story involving waiting for Santa Claus.

Some people may deem a Croatian villa to be the ideal base from which to take in all of the events on the calendar in one of the country's most picturesque regions.

Other events include a Christmas market on December 15th, numerous carol services and choir performances and a Bethlehem light festival.

Last week Adela Markovic, writing for tourism website Guide2Croatia, stated that Zagreb carried an "air of magic" throughout December and is "well worth a visit".
