Istria wine and food in demand
24 June 2009If good food and drink is the reason you choose a particular destination for a holiday, Croatia could be for you.
To be more specific, the region of Istria may make an ideal holiday destination as it has been commended for its wines and other produce.
US food firm Argo Gourmet, which is based in Pendleton, Oregon, is a fan of Istrian goods and was granted permission earlier this week to import them across the Atlantic.
Commenting to the Croatian Times, company owner Arthur Hill said: "We are thrilled to add these fine wines and brandies to our menu of Istrian foods, including gourmet olive oil and truffle products."
He added that the firm's Istrian oils are already available, while it is still waiting to register the truffle products with the US Food and Drug Administration.
Highlighting what people who take a holiday to Istria could find out for themselves, the business' website says that the secret to its Extra Virgin Olive Oil product is the Porec olive, which is "born and nourished in the sun of Istria county".
