Istrian region could offer dream holiday

Croatia's Istrian region could have 'something for everyone' and may be perfect for a family holiday, according to the Daily Mail.

The area in north-west Croatia is rich and diverse in history, home to stunning architecture and also offers picturesque views of the beautiful Adriatic.

As the region was once controlled by the Venetians, it may be unsurprising to find that much of the culture and appearance of Istria is very much like Italy's famous city on water.

John McEntee, writing for the newspaper, said: "The locals were friendly and helpful as well as colourful. For us first-time visitors to Croatia, the Istrian peninsula was a wonderful eyeopener. The self-contained area is full of historic towns."

But if history-drenched towns with 800-year-old churches fail to excite the whole family, the long and winding beaches along the Istrian Peninsula could complete the dream.

Croatia prides itself on see-through water and golden sandy beaches.

Dubrovnik, at the southern end of Croatia, has also been highlighted as particularly beautiful.

Online lifestyle magazine In2Town last month claimed the city is a great attraction.
