Japanese garden could tempt tourists into booking Croatia holiday
05 January 2010The Balkans' first Japanese garden will be built in Rijeka in 2010 - which could be a good reason to book a Croatian villa or waterfront apartment now.
It will be created in the Momayama style - popular in Japan at the turn of the 17th century, according to the Croatian Times.
Acclaimed designer Hayato Isoa has been confirmed as the inspirational mind behind the project, which is being organised by rotary clubs in Rijeka and Tokyo.
Japanese herbs, plants and natural materials will be included in the garden, which will be located in front of Vezice Primary School, the newspaper reveals.
It states: "[The] aim is to bring together leaders from business and the professions who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build peace and goodwill in the world."
The garden could attract green-fingered tourists hoping to enjoy a spot of Asia within the confines of one of Croatia's most beautiful cities.
Rijeka has recently completed several projects making access for visitors easier, such as a new port with links to Italy and a motorway bypassing the city centre.
