Journalist tells of "magnificent" views from Dubrovnik's walls
27 November 2009Travellers mulling over their next holiday destination may want to follow in the footsteps of a Canadian journalist who has written of the enjoyable experience had by he and his family in Dubrovnik.
Rick Haliechuk, who writes for the Toronto Star, disembarked his cruise ship for some time on the historic cobbled streets of the city in southern Croatia.
He wrote: "The views from the ramparts are magnificent. In one direction the blue Adriatic - in the other, the red-tiled rooftops of the old town's cathedrals, museums and monasteries."
The Haliechuk's explored Dubrovnik's old town, surrounded by its ancient double-wall flanked by the ramparts, which is extremely popular with culture-seeking tourists.
At 1.9 kilometres long, or roughly an hour's walking, circumnavigating the wall provides is the perfect way to take in the sights and sounds of the city as well as learning more about its history.
With such a glowing report, some holidaymakers may wish to book a Dubrovnik apartment and look forward to being part of a holiday hotspot described by online travel magazine In2Town last month as one of the "most beautiful" places in Europe.
