Klis Fortress in central Dalmatia to open armour museum
05 August 2009The Klis Fortress in central Dalmatia is set to attract tourists when it opens its armour museum.
Located in the Klis mountains, just northeast of Split, the display will feature a military formation known as Kliski uskoci, according to the Croatian Times.
As of Thursday (August 6th), visitors to the historic military structure will be able to view an array of arms, armour and traditional uniforms.
Klis fortress, which is made primarily from stone, originates from the 16th century and has been a strategic stronghold for Croatian nobility in its illustrious past.
The museum is a joint venture between the Kliski uskoci association and the Split conservation department of the ministry of culture and will give holidamakers a chance to learn about the site as well as buy keepsakes in the museum's gifts shop.
Croatian tourism minister Damir Bajs recently noted that he was satisfied with tourism to the country despite the recession.
