Korcula island heralded as destination

The island of Korcula, just off mainland Croatia, has been heralded as a "picture-perfect setting" for a holiday.

According to the Sunday Mirror it has great scenery, with views of the "immense" St Ilia mountain.

Beach-lovers will be pleased to hear the destination gets 3,000 hours of sunshine each year, with the old town of Korcula boasting white-sand beaches and shallow bathing.

Cultural visitors will also be attracted to the fact the island is the birthplace of Marco Polo.

Exploring the island is described by the newspaper as filled with moments of "stumbling on some of nature's best-kept secrets", especially as there are no larger developments on the island.

The village of Racisce has been heralded by the newspaper as a top spot on the destination, which boasts a quiet bay filled with villagers.

Korcula is the main town on the island, and boasts a population of 3,000 people. The town is popular with visitors from the mainland, with the island itself being the most populated of Croatia's.
