Last-minute Croatian holidays 'set to be popular this summer'
08 March 2010Croatia's tourism minister Damir Bajs has suggested that the last-minute holiday market will see significant growth in 2010.
Mr Bajs, who was speaking at the Croatian Tourist Board's forum this morning (March 8th), said he believed tourism from Germany would be the most lucrative for Croatia this year, the Croatian Times reports.
He also noted that marinas - such as the new development close to Dubrovnik - would play a central part in attracting visitors to the country.
The minister will spend 130 million kunas (£16.2 million) on promotional activities designed to tempt people to take a Croatian holiday.
Greece, France, Portugal and Spain are listed as the main rivals to Croatia, but Mr Bajs may be hopeful that his country's non-euro status will help to attract increasing numbers of travellers to Croatia.
The board last week highlighted the ancient traditions that take place on the island of Hvar as a spectacle well worth watching during a Croatian holiday in April.
