Last-minute flights 'popular way of booking Croatian holiday'
02 February 2010Increasing numbers of tourists are booking flights at the last-minute before heading off on trips - such as a Croatian holiday.
According to flight comparison site Skyscanner, the average number of days before a vacation people are now searching for their travel is 34 days - down from 146 days in 2008.
Explaining the trend, Barry Smith, Skyscanner's co-founder and director, said: "In the middle of the UK's worst recession in decades many people didnt want to book holidays too far in advance, in case they lost their jobs."
The news could mean that many people are preparing to book a last-minute Valentine's break in Dubrovnik, Split or Zagreb - all of which could be considered to offer a romantic feel.
However, those looking further ahead to the summer, when Croatia is one of Europe's top holiday destinations, may wish to take Mr Smith's advice and book early.
He suggested that prices rise as the travel date nears - especially at peak times.
Dubrovnik was recently named by the Guardian as the top Valentine's Day destination for loved-up couples.
