Legendary composer's work coming to Croatia this week

Opera fans may want to book a last-minute break in Croatia after learning that the last leg of a tour playing the work of legendary composer Sigmund Romberg will take place this Friday (November 27th).

Three Romberg Music Evenings have already taken place this month, with the fourth and final one due for this week in the north-eastern town of Belisce, reports the Croatian National Tourism Board website.

Mr Romberg was one of the most revolutionary and industrious composers of the early-20th century.

He spent much of his life in America, where he wrote scores of operas and movies - most notably White Lilac.

Explaining the decision to hold such an event, the tourism board's website stated: "Romberg happens to have spent a part of his childhood in Belisce and the locals gladly remember their most famous fellow citizen."

Another opera legend, Jose Carreras, is due to perform at a charity concert in Croatia in December at Arena Hall, Zagreb.
