Low-cost flights 'provide popular travel to Dubrovnik'

Low-cost flights to Croatia with budget airlines from across Europe are responsible for bringing thousands of tourists to the ancient city of Dubrovnik each year.

Officials believe some 360,000 people will travel to Dubrovnik in 2011 via routes operated by the cheapest carriers, reports the Croatian Times following a piece by Slobodna Dalmacija.

This is approximately a third of the total number that typically visits the resort every 12 months.

Over the coming months, even more links between the Dalmatian coast and the rest of Europe are available as services between Dubrovnik and London, Paris, Madrid and Barcelona open.

According to the news source, the largest number of passengers arrive with easyJet, which also serves Split, while Norwegian Air Shuttle is another popular airline.

The capital city, Zagreb, is set to be used by easyJet from next week as a new route between it and London Gatwick emerges.
