Magnificent setting of Korcula 'worth a visit on Croatia holiday'

People planning a holiday in Croatia should incorporate a visit to the island of Korcula while they are in the country, if one writer is right.

George Webster, writing for CNN, says the land mass located off the Dalmatian coast is an "intriguing" spot, perhaps best known as the birthplace of Marco Polo.

"Set magnificently on its own peninsula, the island's main town is a miniature fortress surrounded by honey-colored stone walls," he states.

On the list of things to do should be the Bishop's Treasury of Korcula, which is said to be home to a "remarkable" portfolio of high-quality art.

Mr Webster also advises people not to miss the Moreska dance, which was previously only performed on special occasions but is now a weekly event for the enjoyment of tourists.

Korcula can be found a short distance off the coast of Dubrovnik, from where a regular ferry service runs to several of the Croatian islands.
