March elections for Montenegro
07 January 2009Government elections are set to be held during March in Montenegro, the country's authorities have revealed.
According to the SEtimes.com, Podgorica-based newspaper Vijesti reported that an extraordinary general election will be held in the city on March 29th.
Late last year, Montenegro's prime minister Milo Djukanovic had suggested that he was considering calling an early general election sometime in spring.
The Montenegrin government said in a statement that the process of joining the European Union needed to be implemented "by the organs and institutions and especially the government and parliament with full four-year mandate."
The government's present mandate expires next year, as a previous agreement had set September 2009 as the official date for the general election.
As well as being the administrative capital of Montenegro, Podgorica is also a popular destination for tourists from all over the world, due to its pleasant climate and abundance and cultural and leisure activities.
