Maribor hosts New Year's Eve events
28 November 2008Maribor in Slovenia will host a variety of events on New Year's Eve where residents of the city and tourists will come together to welcome in 2009.
The celebrations are held in the old city centre of the town - known to locals as Trg svobode - and organisers say it is a once-in-a lifetime experience.
Events to enjoy include the best Slovenian ensembles and soloists before a firework display takes place at midnight, which guarantees to bring a huge turnout of people.
Maribor also hosts a variety of events during the Christmas season including concerts, displays and activities for visitors to take part in.
The official lighting of the Chinese lanterns and other installations will take place at the beginning of December, starting the festivities in the town.
Street events and open-air concerts will take place in the Giavni trg, Trg svobode, Grajski trg and Maistrov squares between December 27th and January 1st.
Ljubljana in the country will also host a wide variety of events for all ages over the Christmas and New Year period.
