Money saved on Croatian holiday could be spent in new shopping venue

Opting for a self-catering holiday - such as one in a Croatian villa - can be cost-effective, according to travelsupermarket.com.

Travellers taking a Croatian holiday in Split in the future may be able to use the cash saved on food and drink to visit a state-of-the-art shopping centre, which is due to be built after the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development promised a loan.

Bosses of City Centre One require a €68 million (£59.3 million) loan from the bank to go towards the €150 million cost of the project, which has now been approved.

City Centre One - which may be an instant hit with tourists in the Balkans - will offer more than 180 shops over 68,000 sq m of retail space.

The Kaufmann and Hofmann Group is also investing a significant sum in the scheme, which will be the latest in a string of top-quality shopping venues to be erected in Croatia.

Last month the Lumini Shopping Centre in Varazdin opened its doors for the first time, while last year Zagreb welcomed the arrival of the Garden Mall complex.
