Montenegrin tourism on the up, despite downturn
01 April 2009The number of foreign tourists visiting Montenegro is increasing despite the global economic downturn, it has been reported.
Statistics from the Tourism Organisation of Budva showed that at the end of March there was 26 per cent more people holidaying in the town compared to the same period in 2008, Vijesti reported.
The organisation revealed that it was encouraged by the fact Budva was currently accommodating 907 holidaymakers, but suggested it wanted to attract even more tourists to the area, according to the publication.
Located on Montenegro's Adriatic coast, Budva's major cultural sights include its picturesque old town and pleasant Mediterranean climate.
The modestly-sized town, which is currently home to about 15,000 inhabitants, also benefits from good transport connections with the country's capital Podgorica and its airport.
Montenegro is officially one of the world's newest countries following its split from neighbour Serbia just under three years ago.
