Montenegro 'moving towards' EU integration

The Adriatic hot spot of Montenegro is quickly moving towards European Union entry, it has been reported.

According to TV Crna Gora, a media outlet in the country, the EU's enlargement commissioner Olli Rehn has given his blessing to the former Yugoslav nation's admission.

In a meeting with Montenegro's foreign minister Milan Rocen, Mr Rehn noted that the country was making good progress towards its goal of joining up with the continent's economic powers.

He told the TV station: "I am encouraged by the fact that the government, all political parties, civil society and social partners are dedicated to the European integration of Montenegro."

Mr Rehn added that the country had made much progress in "strengthening" integral areas such as administration and legislation.

Meanwhile, a new highway infrastructure project is currently underway in the country, which will eventually connect the capital Podgorica with Matesevo, Visit-Montenegro.com reported.
