Montenegro receives highway boost
04 March 2009Tourism in Montenegro could be boosted as plans for a major new highway come closer to fruition.
As reported by Visit-Montenegro.com, the tendering process for the new stretch between the capital Podgorica and Matesevo has now finished.
Once completed, the Adriatic nation's transport infrastructure could allow for easier travel to many more of the attractions that newly-independent Montenegro has to offer.
The minister of transportation, Andrija Lompar, told Visit-Montenegro.com that foreign companies were keen to invest in the country.
She said: "I am extremely satisfied that despite [the] overall situation on the financial and construction market, this highway kept its attractiveness."
Ms Lompar added that the department would be examining the bids over the next few days before eventually announcing a winner.
Last year, Montenegro was labelled the "new Monaco" by a respected travel journalist in the Times newspaper, due to popularity with the rich and famous.
